Singapore-based artist Jaemin Lee(b.1981) incorporates a myriad of influences, fusing together the beauty and power of women body to reflect upon herself as well as to offer a poetic illusion to the experience of nature, place and one’s surrounding space. Never at home, the artist still believes in the realist approach when creating her sketches and paintings by being out in the nature and its space, instead of looking at previously taken photos to recreate and represent that is not there anymore.
In each of Jaemin Lee’s paintings, all elements dynamically and vibrantly interlock. Rendered in her signature texture of oil paints on canvases like frescos, the artist creates a distinct landscape with water and greeneries where women and children are care-freely swimming and even floating in nature. The artist has described her working process as "the gaze of the women in my paintings, and their images, are what came out of my head and my hands.” Reflecting upon personal experience and the surrounding space, Jasmin Lee builds up layers of oil paints and its colors to create dried-but-glowing undertones and overtones of the surrounding, while the figures exploring and expanding the space.
Jaemin Lee studied at Sankt Petersburg Repin State Academic in Russia and then majored a BA Western Painting at Keimyung University- who now lives and based in Singapore. The artist had solo exhibitions at N Gallery(Bundang), Gallery J-One(Daegu), Door Gallery(Seoul), Seocho Gallery(Seoul), and numerous group exhibitions such as ‘Girls, Be Ambitious, (Lotte Gallery, Seoul), ‘ Free Unlock’ (Gana Art Hang Heung Art Park, Hang Heung), ‘ The Multiple Self’ (Lee & Bae, Busan), ‘Young Artist Exhibition’ (Seoul Gallery, Seoul), ‘Painter’s Chair’ (Insa Art Center, Seoul), ‘Art Revolution’ (X-Power Gallery, Taipei) and many more. Also, Gallery Huue Singapore will present a solo exhibition of Jaemin Lee in an upcoming year of 2022.
